Prayer and Evangelism Needed to Bring Revival to America

I founded the ministry, Prayer in Every City, to encourage people to form prayer groups and pray for Revival and Spiritual Awakening in America. However, prayer is not enough to bring about revival, but we must also have preachers who are willing tofairhope preach against sin and individuals must be willing to tell others about Jesus Christ. Prayer is the starting point for what is needed for revival, but it is not the only solution for our sin problem in America. In the following verse, Paul tells Timothy that first of all supplications, prayers, and intercessions must be made on behalf of all men. God desires that all men be saved and this begins with prayer. Paul even says that this is good and acceptable in the sight of God. So God wants us to pray for the salvation of all men. How are we measuring up in America? Are we setting aside a daily quiet time with the Lord? Do we meet regularly with other believers to pray?  I know life is busy, but we are too busy if we don't have time to pray for the lost. Even when we do pray, what are we praying about? Does our prayer time focus on me and mine or does it focus on thee and thine? Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Tim 2:1-4 (NKJV). Even though prayer is a wonderful thing and God desires us to pray for all men, we can't stop with just praying for them. They cannot accept Christ, if they have never heard of Him.

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:14-15 (NKJV)

When praying for America, we also need to include prayer for laborers and evangelists. Do you know the difference between an evangelist and a preacher? In Ephesians 4:11-13, these are two different spiritual gifts.  A preacher is a pastor over a body of believers, but an evangelist is specially gifted in the area of winning people to Christ. Some preachers have the spiritual gift of evangelism, but not all do. An evangelist does not have to be a preacher, but can be any believer. We need evangelists like R.A. Torrey, Charles Spurgeon, D.L. Moody and Billy Graham. What has happened to the evangelists in America? We have preachers who are preaching on television, but are they preaching to the lost? America needs to hear the message of salvation over and over. Did you know that the average American no longer knows what the scripture reference John 3:16 means? If you hold up a sign at a football game with just the reference to John 3:16, most do not know what this stands for. We need evangelists. The Bible says that we need to call upon the Lord to send laborers to the harvest. “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” Matt 9:37-38 (NKJV).

So in order for America to have revival we need to have a few things happen: prayer groups need to meet together to pray for revival, evangelists need to preach the message of salvation and against sin, and lay people need to begin sharing the gospel message. Bringing someone to church is not sharing the gospel. Many people can attend a church service and never hear the gospel message preached. They might hear a good message about the Bible, but many preachers do not present the gospel message every week. In order for a person to accept Christ, they must first hear the message of salvation.

Please form a prayer group with Prayer in Every City to pray for Revival and Spiritual awakening, you can e-mail us at prayerineverycity.com if you decide to form a group. There is no cost involved with forming a prayer group. If you would like more information about how to form a prayer group, click here: Prayer Groups. We would also like some church hubs, which are churches who agree to host quarterly prayer groups for local churches to attend.
