Keys to Revival – Final

DSC03563 The final key to revival is the preaching of the law or the 10 commandments. If you are familiar with The Way of the Master, then you will understand more about this. There has never been a revival throughout history where the law was not used to bring people under conviction. The following Bible verse is a key verse to revival: “. . . the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ” (Gal. 3:24).  Here are some quotes from famous pastors:

Charles Spurgeon 1834 – 1892
“I do not believe that any man can preach the gospel who does not preach the Law.”

John Wesley 1703 – 1791 “Before I can preach love, mercy, and grace, I must preach sin, Law, and judgment.”

George Whitfield 1714 – 1770
“That is the reason we have so many ‘mushroom’ converts, because their stony ground is not plowed up; they have not got a conviction of the Law; they are stony-ground hearers.”

Martin Luther 1483 – 1546
“The first duty of the gospel preacher is to declare God’s Law and show the nature of sin.”

Charles Finney 1792 – 1875
“Evermore the Law must prepare the way for the gospel. To overlook this in instructing souls is almost certain to result in false hope, the introduction of a false standard of Christian experience, and to fill the Church with false converts… Time will make this plain.”

Charles G. Finney
“It is of great importance that the sinner should be made to feel his guilt…
By a convicted sinner, I mean one who feels himself condemned by the Law of God, as a guilty sinner.”

Ray Comfort 1949-Present
“Biblical evangelism is always, without exception, law to the proud and grace to the humble. Never will you see Jesus giving the gospel, the good news, the cross, the grace of our God, to a proud, arrogant, self-righteous person. No, no. With the law he breaks the hard heart and with the gospel he heals the broken heart.”

This method is also very scriptural.

Psalm 19:7, “The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.”

Romans 3:20, “For by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

Romans 7:7, “I would not have known sin except by the law.”

Galatians 3:24, “. . . the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ.”

Proverbs 6:23, “The commandment is the lamp, and the Law is a light.”

During the Shantung Revival in China from 1927-1937, this method was used with great success. “The basic message of the Keswick, or “deeper-life” movement as it is sometimes called, became the biblical truth basis of the Shantung Revival – as it has been in all true great awakenings. And this is primarily what set the stage for the awakening that finally reached all of China” (p. 7-8 Go Home and Tell by Bertha Smith). I will post the message of the Keswick Conferences in a seperate post.

The keys to revival can be summarized into two basic principles. First is united prayer and second is the teaching of the law. No spiritual awakening has occurred in history without both of these keys. Please review all my other posts on the Keys to Revival.
