Franklin Graham Decision America Tour 2016 – Atlanta, GA
Franklin Graham held the Decision America Rally 2016 in Atlanta, GA yesterday. I volunteered for the event, so my group and I arrived in downtown Atlanta at 9:00 am. We walked from the MARTA public transit station to the hotel in 26 degree weather. For a Southern girl, that is pretty cold. The frigid weather did not deter the crowd, because over 7000 attended the rally. By the time the rally began at noon, the temperature had risen to 31 degrees. This actually felt warm after enduring two hours in the 20’s.
My job was to pass out flags at the “celebrity entrance”. Why do I call this the celebrity entrance? Just minutes before the rally began, Stephen Kendricks arrived with his family. I gave him a flag and shook his hand. This entrance was also the entrance that the policemen used most often. There was a police car barricade surrounding Liberty Plaza on the streets sides of the park. Stephen Kendricks was not the only celebrity attending the rally. I also heard that Ted Cruz’s father, Raphael Cruz, and Henry Blackaby among others were there.
The rally opened with worship led by Tasha Cobbs. Then Franklin Graham took the stage and led the crowd in prayer. He asked everyone to confess the sins of the nation out loud, then he had us confess our own sins silently. It was powerful to hear the voices of 7,000 people lifting their voices to the Lord in prayer. Rev. Graham read from Nehemiah 1:5-11, where Nehemiah prayed for the nation of Israel. He encouraged all Christians to vote, run for office and form prayer groups to pray for our nation.
At the end of the rally, I returned my flags. Just as I stepped around the corner, I saw Franklin Graham up close. It took me a few minutes to grab my phone, but was able to take a close up photo of Rev. Graham.
If you have an opportunity to attend a prayer rally this year, then make the effort to go. If you feel the need to warm up this winter, you might try visiting him at his next stop in Hawaii on February 24th. I would like to volunteer at this rally, but I cannot afford to fly to Hawaii this year.
