I love Thanksgiving. As a child we used to make the yearly trip to my grandmother’s house in Kansas. It was a two day drive with six kids in a station wagon, but we survived. It always seemed to snow on the day that we left, but never while we were there. For southern kids, this was very disappointing. The Thanksgiving holiday was established to give thanks to the Lord for his provisions over the past year. Usually when we thank God, we thank him for physical things such as home, family, wellness, but this year I want to thank God for his spiritual blessings. I will write this prayer from Psalm 103.
Thanksgiving Day Prayer
We bless your holy name, O Lord,
We pray that you will bless our souls and all that is within us.
We pray that you will not allow us to forget your acts of good will.
We thank you for pardoning all our sin.
We thank you that you are the healer and pray for healing of all our diseases.
We thank you for redeeming our lives from the pit
and crowning us with loving-kindness and with compassion;
You satisfy our mouths with good things and renew our youth like the eagle.
We thank you, O Lord, because you perform righteous deeds
and judgments for all who are oppressed.
You are compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in loving-kindness.
We thank you because you have not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
We thank you because you have removed our transgressions from us
and remember them no more.
Lord we thank you for our salvation and your mercy on our undeserving souls.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
