Brotherly Love – John 3:16
Today is Throwback Thursday. Thank you for joining me for another lesson. Normally I would give you a quote from a famous pastor in history, but today I am going to quote John, the beloved disciple. He wrote the most famous verse on love in the entire Bible, which is memorized by most who grew up in church.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16 (NKJV).
If God loved us so much that He gave His Son to die in our place, should we not love our neighbors and our enemies? There are only two commandments which Jesus gave us in the New Testament. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, ” ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 “This is the first and great commandment. 39 “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” Matt 22:36-40 (NKJV). If we truly love God and our neighbors, then we will be willing to go anywhere God sends us and love even our enemies.
Please pray for the church in America to love the Lord unconditionally and to love our enemies. We need to treat all men and women as equals and not favor the rich over the poor. We also need to confess the sins of our nation and pray for revival and spiritual awakening.
