GOOD MORNING! I want to teach you how to do a morning devotional without using a devotional book. If you spend any time on social media, you have probably seen many people post photos of there morning devotional book. I would rather YOU learn to spend time in the WORD OF GOD than the writings of someone else. Not that the devotionals are bad, but those were the words God gave to the authors. If you want God to speak to YOU through His Word, then you must spend time reading it.
This week we will go through the book of Philippians, which is the BOOK OF JOY. Do you need some JOY in your life? Let’s learn how. JOY is a gift from the Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul said he learned to be content in whatever situation he was in, so I will teach you how to have thisJOY.
I want you to begin with a journal book, Bible, pen and a cup of coffee or tea this morning. You can slowly sip your mug as you spend time with the Lord. I want to make this short so you can do it during breakfast. Write the answers to the questions I ask in your devotional. We are going to discover how to have JOY this week.
- Read Philippians 1:1-18a
- Who wrote the book of Philippians and who is the audience in verse 1?
- What does Paul do in verse 4? How often? Who does he pray for and How?
- What is Paul confident about?
- What does Paul do in verse 9-11
- Why does Paul rejoice in verse 18?
Now say a short prayer to the Lord using Paul’s prayer in verses 9-11 as a model. Pray with joy as he describes in verse 4. If you don’t feel joyful, then ask the Lord to give you His joy. We cannot manufacturer joy on on own, but it is given freely as a gift from the Holy Spirit. Pray Paul’s prayer in verses 9-11 for yourself, your family and the church. Now we will all abound in love.
Thank you for your prayers of joy and love this morning. Tomorrow we will finish chapter 1.
