5 Minutes of Prayer for Christmas
5 Minutes of Prayer for Christmas
To the tune “Sweet Hour of Prayer”
Words by Prayer in Every City
5 minutes of prayer,
5 minutes of prayer,
At Christmas there’s time for 5 minutes of prayer,
And while my Father waits at his throne,
I think I can do it on my own!
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul can never find relief,
I can’t escape the tempter’s snare,
Perhaps there is something wrong with only 5 minutes of prayer.
5 minutes of prayer,
5 minutes of prayer,
At Christmas I have no time to spare.
Prayer doesn’t seem to work anyway,
I have chosen other ways to spend my day.
In seasons of distress and grief,
I turn to the TV to get relief,
With sports and kids I cannot bear,
To spend more time than 5 minutes of prayer.
5 minutes of prayer,
5 minutes of prayer,
The joy is gone, the bliss is not there.
But Christmas is just once a year,
If only God were my cashier!
With this in mind I hasten to the place
Where busy shoppers how their face,
And gladly take my station there,
And hope I have time for 5 minutes of prayer.
5 minutes of prayer,
5 minutes of prayer,
I hope God’s listening way up there,
He doesn’t answer when I call on him.
I don’t have time to wait on him.
My sins aren’t confessed and I don’t seek his face,
Nor do I study His Word, or trust His grace.
I still expect him to answer my prayers
Even though, I spend 5 minutes in prayer.
