Graduating Seniors – Pray for Wisdom

HDR old churchI hope this post will help our graduating seniors as they embark on their journey of adulthood. When I began college, I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted to do with my life. I am glad to say that God guided me along the way to prevent me from making disastrous mistakes. Some mistakes are easily corrected, but some mistakes can drastically change the course of your life forever. Please seek out God’s guidance and wisdom as you begin your college or career. Even if you are not a graduate, this post will help encourage you to pray for wisdom. Everyone can use more Godly wisdom.

Have you ever searched the Bible to find God’s promises so you can turn them into prayers? Have you ever prayed for wisdom? God promises to give wisdom to those who ask, as long as we meet His conditions. We can either pray for wisdom over a certain situation or we can pray for wisdom in general. I would much rather have the wisdom of God than to have worldly knowledge. If a person knows how to make wise decisions, then he/she will be able to prevent many mistakes throughout his/her life. Let’s take a look at James 1:5-8.

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” James 1:5-8 (NASB).

Notice that God gives wisdom to those who ask in faith without doubting. How many times do we pray to the Lord, but don’t really have enough faith that He will answer our prayer? In order to build our faith, we need to look for God’s promises and pray them over and over. Since wisdom is an attribute that God promises to give generously, we should pray this promise to not only gain wisdom but to build our faith. If you have problems with lack of faith, then pray for more faith. The father of the demon possessed son did this very thing.

“And Jesus said to him, ” ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, ‘I do believe; help my unbelief'” Mark 9:23-24 (NASB).

When you lack faith in your prayers, then ask the Lord to help grow your faith. He will most likely do this by answering prayers to help increase your faith.
