Memory Verse Monday – 2 Corinthians 13:5

Japan?Thank you for joining us for “Summer in the Secret Place” at Prayer in Every City. This summer we are studying the book of 1 John, The Christianity Test and making Family Photo Prayer Journals. As we will learn in the book of 1 John, we cannot mature in our walk with the Lord without spending time studying the Word of God and in prayer. This morning I began teaching my two teenagers 1 John. I had my son read the first four verses of chapter one and asked him what they meant. He had no idea, so I taught my kids how to take a chapter verse by verse and break it down as we did in last weeks lesson, The Christianity Test Part 2. Within a few minutes, they both understood the verses. I told them that there is a difference between Bible reading and Bible study. Many times when we just read the Bible, but we don’t understand what it means. Rather than take the time to study the passages, we just keep on reading. This method of reading will not take you deeper in your faith. To grow in your faith, you must take the Bible apart verse by verse or precept upon precept and line by line as described in Isaiah 28:9-10. I hope you will join us this week for Chapter 2 of 1 John. We will have to spend a few days on this chapter, at least Wednesday and Thursday, so we don’t miss any important details. Here is your memory verse for this week. It fits the theme of the book 1 John.

Memory Verse

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?–unless indeed you are disqualified.
2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)
