Birthday Countdown for Prayer in Every City
Prayer in Every City will celebrate our first birthday on April 9th. The Lord has done much more than I have expected with this blog and my ministry. I will tell you how it all started.
The Lord gave me the idea to do a website on prayer in 2006, which I guess was about 8 years ago. It is hard to believe that it was that long ago. I did not know how to build a webpage so I was baffled as to why the Lord would ask me to do this. For about a year, I researched the Shantung Revival and Bertha Smith, who was a Southern Baptist missionary in China. I interviewed people who knew Miss Bertha, traveled to her hometown of Cowpens, SC and located many of her teachings. I was amazed how quickly the Lord opened doors and then one day it all stopped. Everything started going wrong and the doors shut as quickly as they had opened. After a while, it seemed that the website would never happen. I often wondered if I really knew how to listen to the Lord, because I didn’t see how it would be possible for me to maintain a website. Have you every second guessed your ability to listen to the Lord? Satan tries to convince you in your mind that God didn’t really say that to you, just as he did with Eve. I didn’t totally abandon the idea of a webpage, but it just seemed it was not going to happen.
There were times I would ask the Lord, “Is it time to do the website”? He would answer, “No”, sometimes before I could get the entire question out. I finally quit asking. If He wanted me to do the website, it would be in His timing. In March, 2013, I was sitting at the table eating breakfast one morning while I was looking at a business card for a woman I had heard speak on prayer. As I looked at the card, I thought, “Oh, she has her own ministry”. Immediately after this the Lord spoke to me (not audibly), and said, “I want you to do a blog”. I thought, “I don’t know how to do a blog!” I was really excited, though, because I knew a blog would be much easier to set up than a website. Hooray, I did not have to learn HTML. I then went to the University of YouTube to learn how to do a blog. Have you ever been to the University of YouTube? You can learn how to cut hair, bake a cake, or even setup a blog. It only took me two weeks to setup this blog. I was amazed at how fast I was able to do this. The Lord had begun to open amazing doors again. Wow! I really did know how to listen to the Lord after all. His timing was 8 years for the website so don’t give up on Him if He hasn’t answered your prayers.
After realizing I was going to have a ministry, I prayed for the Lord to give me a name. I wanted a name which came out of the Bible so I started brainstorming names that I could use. As I was praying and looking through my Bible, I saw a verse which seemed to jump off the page in the book of Acts. This verse is not a life verse or the foundation verse for my ministry, but it does have my title.
“After some days Paul said to Barnabas, ‘Let us return and visit the brethren in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are'” Acts 15:36 (NASB).
As soon as I saw the words in every city I knew my ministry would be called Prayer in Every City. So now you know how my ministry began. This ministry was the Lord’s idea. Come back tomorrow and I will tell you more about how the Lord guided me into this ministry one year ago. He continues to guide me as I write my posts. There are many days I have now idea what to write. I will sit down at my computer and ask the Lord what He wants me to post for that day. Immediately an idea pops into my head. Thank goodness He helps me, otherwise, I would have run out of ideas months ago.
I want to thank all my visitors to this blog, because there would not be a Prayer in Every City without you. It takes prayer in every city to pray for revival.
