Ezekiel 38-39: Battle of Gog of Magog
Bible prophecy is happening before our eyes everyday. As things heat up in the Middle East and with Russia, I like to pay close attention to certain Bible prophecy chapters in the Bible. Particularly Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38-39. This will not be an in-depth post on these end time battles, because I do not feel equipped to do this. My hopes is to give you enough highlights to whet your appetite for further study on these topics. In order to understand these passages, we must know the modern key players in these battles. Today we will look at Ezekiel 38-39 and tomorrow we will take a look at Psalm 83, which may be less familiar to you.
Ezekiel 38-39 is about the battle of Gog of Magog. Many believe that this will be the next “big” prophecy to be fulfilled in the Bible before the tribulation begins. Actually, if you look at Psalm 83, you will realize that this battle may take place before Gog and I will tell you the reason why tomorrow. I have looked at several websites on this subject and not everyone agrees on who the “players” are. Some scholars even said this battle has already taken place. I disagree with this point of view, because of Ezek. 39:9, which states that the weapons will be used for fire for seven years. Many scholars agree this burning of weapons will take place during the tribulation period.
“Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years. They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will plunder those who plundered them, and pillage those who pillaged them,” says the Lord GOD” (Ezekiel 39:9-10 NKJV).
In Ezek. 38:2 we are told of several locations including: Magog, Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. Genesis 10:2 identifies Magog, Tubal and Meshech as sons of Japheth (son of Noah). In order to determine the modern locations, one would need to know where Japheth settled after the flood. Many scholars agree that Tubal and Meshech are the southern states of Russia and Rosh is Russia. So now let’s identify the rest of the participants in this battle with Israel. These are mentioned in Ezek. 38:5-6.
Persia – Iran
Ethiopia – Ethiopia
Put – Libya
Gomer – East Germany
Beth-togarmah – Turkey
In Ezek. 38:12, the center of the world is Israel.
It is time to pay attention to what is going around in the world. I like to visit www.raptureready.com, which posts news from around the world that pertains to end-time prophecy. To learn more about the Battle of Gog of Magog, please visit this sight: Tracking Bible Prophecy.
I hope that you will study end-time prophecy so that you will not be caught off guard like the 5 foolish virgins in Matt. 25:1-13. We need to pray for those who are faint of heart.
“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:42-44 NKJV).
We cannot sit with our heads in the sand about end-time events so if you are too afraid to study Bible prophecy then pray for strength and boldness.
“He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen” (Revelation 22:20-21 NKJV).
