Pray for Peace and Prosperity in America

Welcome to Freedom Friday, which is dedicated to praying for America.

I found a verse in the Bible that really stood out, yesterday, in the book of Jeremiah. It is very fitting to what has happened in America with the recent terror attack and the economic problems that we have seen over the past few years. I still have many friends who can’t find work.

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” Jer. 29:7.

Thank goodness we are not in exile, but we need to pray for peace and prosperity for every city in America. Pray for all of those who are out of work to find jobs and to look to the Lord for their financial provisions rather than the world. God can provide even if you are out of work.

My husband was out of work for 18 months and God miraculously provided for us the entire time. I will tell you a story of one of His provisions. When my husband lost his job, I was about to start a Bible study in my home. I only had enough chairs in my family room to comfortably seat 4 people and had hoped to buy some more furniture. My daughter had also wanted a desk for her room. When we found out about the job loss, my daughter was heartbroken about her desk. I told her we were going to pray for furniture so we gathered the family in the family room and prayed. Within a few weeks, a friend of ours was downsizing his business and offered to let us buy all the office furniture for his company in order to sell it. We bought the furniture, sold everything but a desk for my bedroom, a desk for my daughter’s room, and enough chairs in my family room to seat the 9 women who came to my Bible study. We made enough money to cover the cost of all the furniture. Whenever I look at the beautiful furniture in my family room, I thank the Lord for his wonderful gift.

Notice that our family prayed together during this time. This enabled the children to participate in God’s blessing so they were able to learn of God’s provision during a time of need. Furniture was not a necessity so God provided for our needs and some of our wants.

“Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart” Psalms 37:4 (NKJV).
