Yesterday, I taught on the first verse of the Lord's Prayer. You may wish to check out Part 1 and 2 of this series. Now I would like to look at the second verse of the Lord's Prayer, " Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" Matt 6:10 (KJV). This verse represents our intercessory prayer for God's kingdom advancement. We must pray that God’s will be done on earth as it is done in heaven. God has a plan and we are either in on His plan or we are doing our own plan. God reveals His will for the earth in the Bible, so in order to understand His will we have to study His Word. Paul tells us part of God's plan in this verse, "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth"1 Tim 2:1-4 (NKJV). So part of God’s revealed plan in His Word is for us to pray for the salvation of all men, because He desires that all men be saved. This verse explains perfectly how to pray "thy kingdom come, thy will be done". If we pray for all men, we are praying "thy kingdom come." Many call this type of praying, intercessory prayer. It is God’s will that we intercede on behalf of the lost men and women in America as well as the world.
If I were to use the Lord’s Prayer as an outline based off what we have learned so far, I would begin my prayer time like this:
- Verse 9 – Praise
- Verse 10 – Intercessory Prayer
Tomorrow we will learn the next step of our outline.
Please pray the following prayer with someone today, “Lord, we praise you because you are the author of our salvation. We thank you for sending Your Son so that we have salvation. Our hearts are burdened for the lost men, women, and children in America and around the world. We pray that you would awaken the churches in America so we can be about Your kingdom work. We pray that Your kingdom will come and that Your will be done in our lives as well as the future of America. We pray that America will one day be called, “One nation, under God.” We pray for revival and spiritual awakening. In Jesus Name, Amen.
