Hindrances to Prayer
America has an epidemic sin problem with both the church and the lost. If the church desires to reach the unsaved, we need to be set apart.
God commands the church:
“Be holy, for I am holy”1 Peter 1:16 (NKJV).
We need to be praying for America, but sin prevents our prayers from being being heard by God.
“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear” Psalms 66:18 (NKJV).
“Whatever we ask we receive from Him,
because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight”
1 John 3:22 (NKJV).
The Bible instructs us to confess our sins to the Lord. When the sin is against the Lord, we can confess it directly to Him. When the sin is against an individual, we seek
reconciliation. The Bible refers to this as restitution. I like to use a sin list when doing my confession to the Lord. For a free, downloadable copy of a list of sins click here: Sin List from A-Z. Just fold it like a brochure.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9 (NKJV).
If your sin is against another person, then go to him/her and make it right.
“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift” Matt 5:23-24 (NKJV).
