Did God Hear Your Prayer – Charles Spurgeon

Gramp's BarnEven though fall can be a busy time of year, I hope you will take the time daily to pray and examine yourself. Charles Spurgeon has been referred to as the “Prince of Preachers”. He knew how to get God’s attention when he prayed.

“We must remember that the goal of prayer is the ear of God. Unless that is gained, the prayer has utterly failed. The uttering of it may have kindled devotional feeling in our minds, the hearing of it may have comforted and strengthened the hearts of those with whom we have prayed, but if the prayer has not gained the heart of God, it has failed in its essential purpose”. – Charles Spurgeon

How do you know whether God hears your prayers? We must meet the conditions of answered prayer that He describes in His Word. One of the keys to answered prayer is confession of sin. The Bible says, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” Psalms 66:18. It also says, “Behold, the LORD s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear” Isaiah 59:1-2 (NKJV).

If your prayers are never answered, then it is time to examine your heart for unconfessed sin. Take a look at Sin List from A-Z and confess all your known sins to the Lord. This is the key to answered prayer. For more on hindrances to prayer take a look at my post “Does Prayer Really Work”.
